Mission

From The Secret World Wiki

Missions are activities players can take part in to earn rewards and learn more about the secret world. Most missions are broken into "tiers"; which marks progress while providing both a reward and a stop point for players to leave to do something else.[1] Players can then return at a later time, starting at the new tier, by picking up the mission from the quest giver again or by having it shared from another player.[2]

Players are limited to three missions at a time: a story, main, and side. The over-arcing path of the zone is provided by the story mission. The main mission category has several types including action, investigation, sabotage, and dungeon. Side missions are the type you pick up while exploring.[1][3]

Mission types are identifiable by icon and not all missions or mission types have to be taken to continue progress in the game. Players will be able to redo ~90% of the missions in game although they are on a long cool down timer, allowing for the revisiting of content as desired but avoiding the "grind."[4][5]

[edit] Types

[edit] Story

Story missions are about the player discovering why the world is in the state that it is and how it got there. Progress is unlocked as players work through other mission types and explore the world.[1]

These missions are faction specific and cannot be shared with others, although players of other factions may sometimes have similar goals.

[edit] Action

Action missions require the player to perform tasks such as defeating enemies, fighting back invading forces, and discovering behaviors and weaknesses of certain monsters. Map markers or waypoints will appear in some action missions, but not all.[1]

[edit] Investigation

Investigation or puzzle missions will ask players to do everything from code-breaking on locks, hacking into computers, or requiring research on the internet. An in-game browser has been confirmed but the developers expect that research will continue even outside of the game using methods similar to ARGs.[1][6][7]

[edit] Sabotage

Sabotage missions require stealth game play. They involve sneaking, evading, and hacking in enemy bases and utilities in order to disrupt their efficiency. Traps can be enabled/disabled by players to hinder or assist players in their actions.[1]

[edit] Ranking

Ranking missions are faction specific. It is unclear whether these missions are a type of main or a type of story.[8][9] These may not be their own category as they are not mentioned by Joel in the most recent missions interview.[10]

[edit] Item

These are "flavor" missions that tie back into the story mission.[10]

[edit] Rewards

Players may receive experience points, currency, clothing, and gear for completing a mission.
