[edit] The Secret World
[edit] What type of game is The Secret World?
- TSW is an MMORPG. It takes place in modern day, and has no elements of fantasy or science fiction. Although many people believe it to be a post-apocalyptic game, it is not. For more information on the game, check this overview.
[edit] When will the game be released?
- June 19, 2012[1]
[edit] Where can I purchase the game?
- Pre-orders can currently be purchased on the official website. Pre-orders give: Access to all beta weekends after May 11, early access to the game depending on region, secures your character name for launch, grants you and in-game experience boost, in-game exclusive t-shirt, and a support pet. Other upgrades are also available.
[edit] Where is the official website? Forums?
- The official website can be found at http://www.thesecretworld.com/
- The official forums are located at http://www.darkdemonscrygaia.com/
- The Secret World has a channel on irc.funcom.com in #thesecretworld
[edit] What platforms will the game support?
- The Secret World is being developed for the PC. Ragnar has stated that he has been able to run the game on a Mac using Boot Camp.[2] An Xbox 360 version of the game may happen in the future, but it has been stated that it would be a different type of game than the one currently being developed.[3]
[edit] What languages will the game be available in at release?
- French, English and German.[4]
[edit] When is beta?
- The game is currently in closed beta with professional testers. Beta registrations will open up on August 26th, 2011.[5] Reports from GDC 2011 stated that external closed beta began in May 2011 and will grow from there.[6][7]
[edit] So how can I get into beta?
- Registrations for beta will be released on August 26th, 2011.[5] In the past there were deals with Funcom's other games, such as Age of Conan and Pets vs. Monsters, that guaranteed a beta spot. If you missed those, you can currently pre-order the game which will give you access to all beta weekends after May 11. Another option is to take the faction personality test, which has been advertised as a possible way to win a beta spot, on the official website and wait for more information.
[edit] Will there be a subscription fee?
- The planned subscription model has been announced[8] to be a traditional monthly fee along with an in-game store where players can purchase items to customize their character. The store will be carefully balanced with the game so players are not given an unfair advantage.
[edit] First or third-person?
- So far, the game appears to be mostly third-person. In some videos, the camera has zoomed into a first-person perspective but this seems to have little effect on how the game is played.
[edit] What's the targeting system?
- TSW will feature the traditional tab-targeting system most MMORPGs use. Some skills have been shown to require manual ground targeting for area of effect attack.
[edit] What are the system requirements?
- Minimum requirements have been listed as the following:[9]

- There are no classes in The Secret World. Instead, players gain experience and are free to choose skills to purchase for their character. Players can only have fourteen skills in use at a time, however they can change their build and gear through saved loadouts. There are decks (suggested paths) for those who don't know how to roll their character.
[edit] How many levels are there?
- There are no levels in The Secret World. This means that you won't instantly be able to tell if someone is strong or weak just through appearance. Likewise, it means that all players can help each other out in content.
[edit] What are factions/secret societies?
- Players must join one of three factions in order to play The Secret World. These are either the Dragon, Illuminati, or Templars. If you're unsure which to join, try taking the faction personality test.
[edit] So can I team up with someone of a different faction?
- Yes, in PvE, all players can group together. However, in PvP, members of different factions will be enemies.[10]
[edit] Will there be any player versus player?
- PvP will be included and be comprised of the three factions fighting against each other over locations and ancient relics in arenas.
[edit] What are cabals?
- Guilds in The Secret World are called cabals. Cabals can only be made up of one faction, and are optional for all players.
[edit] Will there be crafting?
- Crafting has been mentioned to be in the game a few times but no information has been given on it.[11]
[edit] ARG
[edit] What is an ARG?
- An alternate reality game involves blurring the lines between reality and fiction. Most of The Secret World's PR in the early years was done through ARGs, in which community members try to solve puzzles in order to learn more about characters and the game. You can check out the latest ARG or start from the beginning with The Poem.
[edit] Are ARG events still being done?
- ARG events are not announced officially, and there is usually no warning for one. On the official forums, there will usually be a thread, perhaps multiple, about the ARG with heavy posting, so keeping an eye on the community is your best bet to taking part in one. When one occurs, the Main Page of the wiki will show a red box stating that one is ongoing.
[edit] What is the countdown?
- The countdown was a timer that used to be on the old website at http://www.darkdaysarecoming.com. It was counting down to December 21, 2012. This was confirmed to not be the release date. After the website was redesigned, there no longer is a countdown.
[edit] What are tokens?
- Tokens were given to people who participated in the They Are Coming Back ARG, and were received from the Sanctuary of Secret's website. No use for them has been given yet, only that people who received them should hold on to them.
[edit] Can I still get a token?
- Since the website is no longer functioning, it is impossible for new tokens to be acquired.
[edit] I lost my token, can I get it back?
- If you no longer have the image of the token, or the e-mail, it is unfortunate, but you probably will not be able to obtain your token. Sorry.

- Registering an account is simple and easy. E-mail is optional and only used if you forget your password.

- Registering allows you to upload files and edit some pages that are locked for protection reasons. It also makes it easier to keep track of your contributions. If you don't want to register, be aware that your IP address will be shown in the page's history.

- The best way to help is checking the how to help page.
[edit] Who can I contact if I have a problem?
- Check the staff page and try to get in contact with someone there.
